Day 31: All Day in Bed

July 23, 2008

I felt like crap today…physically weak and mentally depressed and listless. That’s why I literally spent the entire day in bed (until 5pm). I feel a little better now but still not good enough and I’m having doubts about this juice feast journey…I hope all this is just emotional detoxification I’m going through. :(

Day 30: Pure Green Juice

July 22, 2008

For the first time I could tolerate drinking a liter of pure green juice (celery, cucumber, swisschard, red lettuce) without using apples to sweeten it. I didn’t have to force myself and it was actually quite good. :)

Day 29: Sneeze Attack

July 21, 2008

I’m sneezing like crazy today. My nose is runny but I don’t have a cold. It’s more of an allergic reaction…I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that I ate bee pollen for the first time in my life yesterday night. However, I’m not the only one in my household sneezing madly so there must be something in the air….aaaahhchoouuu!!!

Day 21: Juice Recipe Tips

July 13, 2008

Green & Purple JuiceI realized that “salty” vegetable juices can be pretty tasty, too. Combinations like tomatoes, basil, garlic, onions, and zucchini are very savory. For a salty flavor I used granulated Kelp, which is a sea algae that’s salty by nature. What surprised me was finding out that zucchini makes a juice very silky and almost creamy.

For a sweet craving I also discovered a creat combination: carrots, beet root, and apples. Wow, that’s super-sweet and very tasty as well as quite satiating!

Day 17: The Importance of Chewing

July 9, 2008

Digestion starts in the mouth. Especially carbohydrates (sugars, starches) start to break down in the mouth through the enzyme amylase found in saliva. I have actually known that for a long time. During the last few days, however, I started to really notice the importance of chewing and insalivating (is that a word?). Just swallowing juice often leads to an uncomfortable and gurgling stomach. If I thoroughly “chew” the juice, however, that problem does not occur.

Day 15: Week 2 Summary

July 7, 2008

I’m glad to have experienced less ups and downs during this second week. My energy levels still aren’t where I’d like them to be, though. I’m also still working on getting in 4 liters/quarts of juice per day. My weight has further decreased but at a slower rate. Doing enemas has become a normal routine and dry skin brushing feels wonderful. A couple of teeth have become quite sensitive to brushing…don’t know if that’s juice-related. I’m looking forward to finding a better juice making routine because it still takes me quite a lot of time.

Day 14: 1kg Weight Reduction in one Day?!

July 6, 2008

No joke, this morning I really weighed almost 1kg (2.2lbs) less than 24 hours ago. At first I thought the scale must be broken, but it isn’t. Fairly quickly I realized that it was all about water weight. As soon as I drank a liter/quart of water with lemon juice, did an enema and showered the weight came back to the level it was at yesterday.

Day 9: Looong Night

July 1, 2008

Went to bed very early yesterday and although I didn’t fall asleep right away (and I didn’t sleep the whole night through) I spent a full 13 hours in bed. Somehow I needed it and when I got up I felt much better and more balanced. My energy seems to be coming back and will hopefully be more steady from now on.

Day 8: Week 1 Summary

June 30, 2008

Overall it’s been a positive experience although there have been more downs than ups with regard to energy. I slept a lot and had less energy than usally…probably becuase I didn’t meet my caloric requirements, i.e. the daily minimum juice requirement.

Positive changes:

  • no more dried-out facial skin
  • no more sneeze-attacks (due to pollen in the air)
  • 4.3kg (9.5lbs) less weight
  • slight change in eye color

Day 7: Red Green-Juice

June 29, 2008

Celery,Cucumber,RomaineLettuce,SwissChard,Apple,RedBellPepper,BeetRoot,Ginger Today was an easy Sunday. I slept in, made juice, and went biking for 1.5 hours. On the bike I noticed that I lost some strength/energy. This coming week I really want to stick to the recommended juice minimum of 4 quarts/liters per day.

My juice today was made from celery, cucumber, romaine lettuce, swiss chard, apples, bell pepper, ginger and it would actually be green if I hadn’t added a small beet root…amazing how relatively little of this root vegetable it takes to color 3 liters of green juice.
