Day 8: Week 1 Summary

June 30, 2008

Overall it’s been a positive experience although there have been more downs than ups with regard to energy. I slept a lot and had less energy than usally…probably becuase I didn’t meet my caloric requirements, i.e. the daily minimum juice requirement.

Positive changes:

  • no more dried-out facial skin
  • no more sneeze-attacks (due to pollen in the air)
  • 4.3kg (9.5lbs) less weight
  • slight change in eye color

Day 7: Red Green-Juice

June 29, 2008

Celery,Cucumber,RomaineLettuce,SwissChard,Apple,RedBellPepper,BeetRoot,Ginger Today was an easy Sunday. I slept in, made juice, and went biking for 1.5 hours. On the bike I noticed that I lost some strength/energy. This coming week I really want to stick to the recommended juice minimum of 4 quarts/liters per day.

My juice today was made from celery, cucumber, romaine lettuce, swiss chard, apples, bell pepper, ginger and it would actually be green if I hadn’t added a small beet root…amazing how relatively little of this root vegetable it takes to color 3 liters of green juice.

Day 6: A Week’s Worth of Shopping

June 28, 2008

Today I went shopping for the coming week. I bought green leafy vegetables, celery, cucumber, carrots, beet roots, and apples…43kg (95lbs) of it! Wow, never before have I bought that much at once and it seems a bit unrealistic that one person could consume all that in just one week…but juice feasting makes it possible. :-)

Day 5: Change in Eye Color

June 27, 2008

Today I noticed something amazing. As far as I can remember I always had green-brown (i.e. hazel) eyes. This morning I looked in the mirror and saw that starting from the outside my eyes are suddenly blueish and then turn into green-brown. Wow! Is it possible that my eye color changed? Does juicing have something to do with it? Fascinating!

Day 4: Do I Need More Juice?

June 26, 2008

During the first half of the day I felt pretty weak. No wonder because I didn’t drink anything all morning…but I wasn’t really hungry either and felt like my stomach was shrinking. However, as soon as I started drinking juice again the energy came back. Perhaps I should really try to get in those 4 liters/quarts of juice per day.

I also noticed a white-yellowish film on my teeth and tongue. Supposedly it’s a good sign that something good (detoxing) is happening in the intestines. Now I really want to get one of those tongue scrapers (they’re actually a bit difficult to find around here).

Day 3: Tasty Green Juice

June 25, 2008

Celery, Cucumber, Headlettuce, Apple, Lemon, Ginger Today I was full of energy. For food I had a tasty green juice (finally!) made from celery, cucumber, headlettuce, apple, lemon, and ginger and a super-sweet juice purely from cantaloupe melon. Moreover, I drank a liter of burdock root tea (apparently a good blood cleanser and great for skin problems).

During the last two days as well as today I didn’t consume the recommended daily minimum of 4 liters/quarts of juice. But I was never really hungry, either. It probably also has something to do with the pretty hot weather in which I usually don’t feel very hungry.

Day 2: First Day of Work

June 24, 2008

During the night after my first day of only juice I slept a mere 4 hours. I woke up before the alarm clock and was ready for the day. Wow! Could that have something to do with the juicing? I guess that’s quite possible…but it probably had also something to do with the hot/humid summer night.

With regard to juicing I’m still experimenting and again didn’t manage to come up with a tasty green juice. For a fruit-based juice, however, I found something very tasty: apple and ginger…what a great combination!

I only took 1 liter of juice to work and it was actually enough for me. Although after I got home I did make myself another small (3dL) melon juice. Such a sweet juice is probably not the best thing to have that late at night (10:30pm) but it actually hit the spot quite well satiating my upcoming hunger feeling.

Day 1: Juice Feast Introduction

June 23, 2008

Video: Brief overview of what a Juice Feast is and why I’m doing one.

I took this first day very easy. In the morning I slept in and then slowly approached the new daily routine. Besides the daily 4 liters/quarts of fresh juice there’s also an important hygiene routine (morning water with lemon juice, enema, dry skin brushing, hot-cool shower, tongue cleaning), as well as physical activity and relaxed winding-down at the end of the day. Especially the hygiene routine is new to me and so it too a little longer…in a few days I’m sure it will be a new habit.

For food I did some experimenting. At first a green juice based on romaine lettuce, cucumber, ginger, which wasn’t very tasty, though. Really tasty on the other hand was a juice from apple and rhubarb…I had no idea raw rhubarb could actually be quite delicious! :-)

Day 0: The Last Supper

June 21, 2008

I have just enjoyed the last solid food meal for the next three months. That’s because tomorrow I will start my Juice Feast for which I will only consume liquid food in the form of fresh and raw vegetable and fruit juice (see www.juicefeasting.com). The thought of not biting and chewing solid matter for the next 92 days makes me a bit nervous. However, I do feel ready mentally and I’m looking forward to the wonderful adventure that is to come.

I have read a lot about Juice Feasting and I am confident it will positively change my life. Never before have I fasted or done any kind of cleansing program, but I am sure there is stuff that needs detoxification (physically, emotionally, mentally). I’m doing this to take my personal health to the next level and I’m also hoping to positively influence my surroundings. The Juice Feasting program is an idea, whose time has come.
